Program Requirements

 Courses taken for credit in this program must be from the list of courses approved by the Steering Committee. Any exceptions will be submitted for review by the Steering Committee.

Thesis option: Students must complete 24 credit hours of course work (at least 21 credit hours in graduate courses) plus 6 credit hours of thesis.

Non-thesis option: Students must complete 36 credit hours of course work (at least 24 credit hours in graduate courses).

For each option, required credits include

• 6 credits for Bioinformatics I & II
• 3 credits for Bioinformatics Research Practicum
• minimum of 6 credits from list of "computing" courses at the 200-level
• minimum of 6 credits from the list of "bio" courses at the 200-level
• 1 semester of attending the Bioinformatics Seminars (2 credit)

Upon matriculation, students will be assigned a faculty advisor who will maintain contact with the student throughout the graduate program. The thesis advisor may be from any of the participating units. By the start of the second semester students must select the thesis or non-thesis option.

By the end of the first year in the program, students will be assigned a Faculty Mentor for the practicum. This will be done with the aide of the student's advisor.

Part-time and full-time students are welcome, and the individual student program will differ depending on student background. However, the typical full-time program, assuming completion in 16 months, is provided for each option:
