How Can My Company Help?

Industrial Partners are encouraged to participate in the program.  Ways in which to participate, include:

Employment opportunities:

#1 Interview our students
The single most effective way to attract students this year is to have interviewed and hired good students last year. The student grapevine is very effective, although not always accurate.
Industrial-based Graduate Research Assistant
You can support a Graduate Research Assistant to work 20 hours per week on your project. The student can work at your site or at the Medical College of Wisconsin. The student and your project will receive faculty participation.

Low cost opportunities include:

Shadow an employee
Have a student shadow an employee at work for a half day or a full day. For information sharing only.
Information counter at the Medical College of Wisconsin
Have a couple employees spend a half day at an information table in the lobby of the Health Research Center at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Mouse pads
Give us a box or two of mouse pads carrying your company's logo. We'll use some of the pads in our labs and put some by the door for students.
Provide company information videos
Send a copy of your company's information video to the Bioinformatics Research Center of Medical College of Wisconsin (414-456-8871).
Send "Here's what I'm doing" e-mail
We encourage former students to keep in touch. Send a "Here's what I'm doing" e-mail to Dr. Anne V. Clough clough@mscs.mu.edu.
Provide us with job openings at your company
We hope that your firm recruits through the Medical College of Wisconsin. Include jobs requiring experience. Notices will be circulated to experienced alumni, as well as current students.
Class speakers
Faculty encourage active practitioners to present their material for the class.
Class projects
Some classes will require students to complete projects appropriate to the course content.
Participate in research seminars and colloquia
We welcome industrial participants. You can influence our choices of topics.

Moderate cost opportunities include:

Offer your training classes in one of our laboratories
Our current computer laboratory facilities are first-rate. We can arrange for you to use our labs for training your employees or customers, as well as for marketing demonstrations. Schedules work around classes.
Sponsor a colloquium series
We bring in nationally and internationally known researchers in fields of interest to students and faculty.
Special software
We believe strongly in the importance of open systems and recognize the value of special software. Depending on licensing agreements and conditions, you may donate, loan or provide demos of your software for our students.
Faculty consultant
Many of our faculty do consulting work in their areas of expertise, alone or with students.

Substantial opportunities include:

Funded research project
Many of our faculty participate in industrially-funded research collaborations in their areas of expertise. We do projects as small as a few hours of consultation or as large as several faculty and graduate students over several years. Because our academic setting gives us easy access to colleagues in many disciplines, most of our projects have a decidedly interdisciplinary flavor.
Computer laboratories
Our current computer laboratory facilities are first-rate, but to maintain the state-of-the-art quality you expect for your future employees, we are in constant need of upgrade and replacement equipment.
Endowed Chair in Bioinformatics
If your interested in making a lasting mark on our Bioinformatics Program, consider endowing a chair in bioinformatics. Contact Dr. Anne V. Clough clough@mscs.mu.edu for specific information.
